Maxwell Apapa, one of the key figures speaking on the ongoing legal battle surrounding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has made a strong and direct statement that is now drawing attention across the country.

During a recent interview, Apapa explained what he believes should be the first step from the Federal Government if it truly wants to resolve the long-standing issue.

According to him, the situation has gone beyond ordinary legal arguments. He stressed that fairness and proper legal procedure were not followed at the trial stage, especially when Kanu was denied the right to file his final written address.

Apapa argued that this alone weakened the entire judgement and raised serious concerns within the legal community.

He revealed that both serving and retired judges contacted him privately, shocked by how the case was handled.

However, the most striking part of the interview came when he was asked what message he would deliver to President Bola Tinubu if given the opportunity. Maxwell Apapa responded clearly and boldly: “If I could speak to President Tinu today, I would tell him to apologise first.”

He explained that any move toward pardon or political solution must begin with an apology, not a condition that labels Kanu as a criminal.

Apapa insisted that Kanu would not accept any form of amnesty that treats him like someone who committed a crime. He said the process of how someone is released matters just as much as the release itself.

Apapa also described the overwhelming support Kanu continues to receive from his community and supporters. According to him, people from different walks of life former schoolmates, villagers, and even those he had forgotten have been reaching out daily, showing concern and asking for updates. He called it “a kind of love” he had never witnessed before.

He warned that leaders must always remember that power is temporary and history never forgets. Apapa urged the government to act with responsibility, fairness, and humanity.
