Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has reflected on his early years, emphasizing the strong sense of unity that once defined Nigeria’s youth. He said his time at the Nigeria Military School (NMS) in Zaria was shaped by deep bonds among students from all ethnic backgrounds.
In a report by VANGUARD on Sunday November 30 2025, Marwa recalled that the school was never exclusive to any region or tribe. He explained that whether a student spoke Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo, they all saw one another as brothers, united by shared values and purpose.
He also spoke about his upbringing, which took him across several Nigerian cities including Zaria, Enugu, Abeokuta, and Lagos due to his father’s military service.
“It was never a school for northern boys alone. Whether you spoke Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo, we regarded ourselves as kin,” he said.
