Netanyahu Spokesman Quits, Admits To Racist Remarks On Mizrahi Jews And Attacks On Prime Minister

According to a report by The Times of Israel on Thursday, March 26, 2026, a senior aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has resigned following the emergence of controversial remarks in which he allegedly made derogatory comments about Mizrahi Jews and criticized the prime minister.

The official, Ziv Agmon, who served as both spokesman and acting chief of staff, announced his decision to step down on Wednesday. His resignation came shortly after media reports revealed excerpts from private conversations in which he was said to have made offensive statements about Jews of Middle Eastern and North African descent, as well as unflattering remarks about Netanyahu himself.

In a statement released through the prime minister’s office, Agmon confirmed that the remarks attributed to him were authentic but argued that they had been presented in a misleading manner. He claimed that the excerpts were selectively taken from personal discussions and stripped of their original context in order to damage his reputation and undermine the government.

According to Agmon, the conversations in question were largely from a period before he assumed his current role in government. He suggested that the timing of their release was intended to inflict political harm, both on him and on the administration he served.

Responding to accusations of racism, Agmon strongly rejected the claims, insisting that they did not reflect his beliefs or values. He described the allegations as baseless, pointing to his own family background, which he said includes Moroccan heritage, as evidence against the characterization.

He further criticized what he described as the publication of fragments from private exchanges, arguing that turning such remarks into public controversy was inappropriate and misleading. Nonetheless, Agmon issued an apology to anyone who may have been offended by the comments, acknowledging the impact they may have caused.

Explaining his decision to resign, Agmon said he had originally taken up the role to work behind the scenes, away from public attention. However, the growing scrutiny and controversy surrounding his statements had made it difficult for him to continue effectively in his position.

He noted that the situation had sparked divisive public debate and concluded that stepping aside was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances. Agmon said he had informed the prime minister of his decision, bringing a swift end to his tenure amid mounting pressure……See More
