Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi has stated that he is worried about the health and safety of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai who is in the custody of the DSS
In an interview with Trust TV on Monday, May 18, 2026, Amaechi stated that El-Rufai was already ill before his detention. He said if El-Rufai dies in detention it could create a serious situation that the government may struggle to control.
Amaechi stated that El-Rufai should be allowed to return home and receive medical treatment in the hospital. He also said the government should allow him access to his lawyers and permit him to attend court from home
