According to news published by Vanguard on Tuesday, 18th of November, 2025, Maga town in Kebbi State is quiet these days, but the pain is loud. Early Monday morning, before the call to prayer, bandits wearing army uniforms broke into Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School and changed many lives forever. They killed the school guard and the vice principal, then took away 25 girls. One of the widows told the story of how her daughter escaped by the skin of her teeth.
The security guard’s wife, still wearing the same clothes she had on that night, spoke softly to reporters outside her small house. “I heard noise at the window. I thought it was goats,” she said. “I woke my husband. When he opened the door, the men were already there with guns. We started praying out loud. That was when they shot him in the chest.”
Blood was everywhere. She tried to press the wound, but one bandit pushed her away and said they would kill her too. Just then, their daughter came out of the room crying. The men grabbed the girl and dragged her towards the hostel where the students sleep.
“My daughter begged them to allow her ease herself, so they left and went after other students. It was then she ran into the bush in the dead of the night till daybreak before she got to safety and returned home. That was how she managed to escape.”
The same men later went to the vice principal’s house. His widow, Malama Amina, said they kicked the door and told her husband to say his last prayers. “He was still praying when they shot him,” she said, her voice breaking. “He fell down and never spoke again.”
After the two killings, the bandits picked girls one by one and marched them into the forest. Some parents say 27 are missing, but police counted 25.
Governor Nasir Idris came to the school with soldiers and promised the girls would come home soon. Security men are now searching the bushes, but no news yet. No ransom call has come.
