The Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has spoken about his decision to remain in Nigeria despite having close family members living abroad, saying he has chosen to stay in the country throughout his public life.
Dokubo made the remarks during a video shared on Facebook on Sunday, July 19, 2026, where he reflected on his family, his personal convictions, and his commitment to Nigeria.
In his statement, he explained that although several members of his family live outside the country, he has remained in Nigeria because of his personal beliefs and attachment to his homeland.
He said, “My brother is in the US, and my children are scattered all over the world, but I did not run away,” emphasizing that he has continued to live in Nigeria despite having opportunities to relocate abroad.
According to him, every individual has the right to decide where to live, and such decisions are often influenced by personal convictions, family circumstances, and long-term goals.
Dokubo further noted that many Nigerians have family members residing in different parts of the world, but this does not diminish their connection to their country or their commitment to national development.
He also stressed that remaining in Nigeria has allowed him to continue participating in issues he considers important to the country’s future and the welfare of its people.
