Matawalle: His SSA Made A Confession That He Was Buying Hilux For Bandits In The Forest- Awforkansi

Speaking during an interview on Signature TV, a legal practitioner, Nnadiume Awforkansi, made strong allegations concerning the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, linking recent security controversies to events during Matawalle’s tenure as governor of Zamfara State.

Awforkansi said public attention has increasingly focused on Matawalle due to his past role as governor of one of Nigeria’s most insecurity-prone states.

According to him, issues surrounding banditry and terrorism in Zamfara became more pronounced after a former aide to the ex-governor made startling claims in the public domain.

He explained that the allegations gained traction following a confession reportedly made by Matawalle’s former Senior Special Assistant (SSA), who alleged that resources were diverted to support criminal elements operating in forest areas of the state during the administration.

Awforkansi argued that such claims, if properly investigated, could have far-reaching implications for national security and governance accountability, especially given Matawalle’s current position within the federal government.

He stated: “The minister of state for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, now the Matawalle’s angle, and now became so open because he was former governor of Zamfara State. So, when his SSA now came up and made a public confession that, when they were in power, that his boss, as governor, was buying Hilux and trucks for terrorist and bandits this in the forest.”

The legal practitioner emphasized that allegations of this nature should not be dismissed as political rhetoric but must be thoroughly examined by relevant security and anti-corruption agencies.

Awforkansi further noted that the credibility of the country’s fight against terrorism depends largely on the integrity of those entrusted with security responsibilities.
