Phone seller and trader at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano, Sabiu Ismail, has narrated how hoodlums attacked parts of the busy commercial hub, leaving several shops looted and traders counting losses.
Ismail, whose shop was among those affected, said the incident began after a group of armed individuals moved through the market vicinity during what was initially a tense political gathering nearby.
He explained that traders initially continued their business activities before chaos suddenly broke out, forcing people to flee for safety as attackers targeted phones and other valuable goods.
The incident was reported by Trust TV, which interviewed traders at the market to gather firsthand accounts of the violence that disrupted commercial activities in the area and left many shop owners distressed over losses incurred during the attack.
During the interview, Sabiu Ismail provided a detailed account of how the attackers arrived, briefly moved towards a nearby political gathering, and later returned to unleash violence on traders in the market.
He said: “We saw people carrying weapons. They moved towards political gathering but within 10 minutes, they returned. That’s when the chaos began. They attacked people and looted our phones. Many of those phones were not even ours, they were given to us to sell with only a small profit of N1000 or N2000.”
The attack has left traders at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano counting heavy losses as many shop owners struggle to recover from the looting.
