According to a report by Daily Post, on Tuesday February 17, 2026, an Islamic cleric, Ibrahim El Mu’azzam, has stated that Muslims are not prohibited from voting during Ramadan, stating that Islamic teachings do not forbid civic participation while fasting.
El Mu’azzam strongly advised Muslims to exercise their right to vote under any circumstance and explained that leadership plays a crucial role in the welfare, security, and freedom of citizens, including the environment in which people practice their religion.
According to him, voting is fundamental because it shapes the conditions under which Muslims live and practice their faith.
He said choosing good leaders is not just a political act but a religiously important one, leadership affects the safety and well-being of communities, it also influences how freely people can observe their religious duties, for Muslims, this includes the ability to pray, fast, and perform other spiritual acts without interference.
The cleric highlighted that participating in elections is part of fulfilling broader social responsibilities, even though Ramadan is a sacred month devoted to fasting, prayer, and reflection, citizens must not neglect their civic duties.
He explained that voting ensures that leadership is accountable and that government policies support the needs of all citizens and encouraged Muslims to see elections as a chance to positively influence society.
