US President Donald Trump held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as tensions with Iran intensified, raising concerns over the possibility of a wider regional conflict. The meeting comes amid growing warnings from US and Israeli officials that Tehran’s military posture and proxy activity could trigger a direct confrontation.
Security analysts say the discussions focused on Iran’s nuclear program, its support for armed groups across the Middle East, and the potential role Israel could play if hostilities escalate. The talks also follow recent intelligence assessments suggesting an increased risk of Iranian retaliation against US or Israeli interests in the region.
In an interview with Fox Business, Heritage Foundation National Security Vice President Victoria Coates addressed the issue in a recent interview, outlining Israel’s strategic position should the United States enter into open conflict with Iran. She emphasized Israel’s military capabilities and long-standing coordination with Washington, noting that the two allies have developed extensive joint defense planning.
Coates said, “The Iranians were completely defenseless against both the Americans and Israelis, and they still are and they know it.”
Officials familiar with the Trump-Netanyahu meeting said discussions also included diplomatic options alongside military planning, as both leaders weigh how to deter Iran while avoiding a full-scale war. The outcome of the talks is expected to shape US-Israeli strategy in the coming weeks as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
