According to the Jerusalem Post, Iran has received a new batch of 1,000 military drones, underscoring what officials describe as growing preparations for a possible confrontation with the United States, as diplomatic efforts appear increasingly strained.
According to a report published Thursday by the Hezbollah-aligned Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, informed sources in Tehran believe that complying with US demands would come at a higher cost than armed conflict. The sources said Iranian leaders see Washington’s conditions as tantamount to surrender and are preparing accordingly.
The drone delivery was separately confirmed by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, which reported that the unmanned aerial vehicles had been distributed among several branches of the Iranian armed forces. The move comes amid heightened tensions and an expanded American military presence in the region.
“In accordance with the threats ahead, the army maintains and enhances its strategic advantages for rapid combat and imposing a crushing response against any aggressor,” Iranian army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami said.
Iranian officials also pushed back strongly against claims from Washington that Tehran has sought to restart negotiations. A source in Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed those assertions as misleading. “The American claims regarding Iran’s request to negotiate and reach an agreement are baseless and aimed at waging psychological warfare and exerting pressure on Tehran,” the source told Al-Akhbar
Earlier this month, current US President Donald Trump said Iran had reached out to resume talks. “I think they’re tired of being beaten up by the United States,” Trump said. “Iran wants to negotiate.”
Tehran, however, insists the United States is not pursuing genuine diplomacy. The Foreign Ministry source said Washington is seeking to impose an agreement that would require Iran to dismantle its nuclear program, restrict its defense capabilities, and recognize Israel.
“This has nothing to do with a balanced agreement; it would mean Iran’s surrender,” the source said, adding that Iran would still prefer a fair deal but would not accept imposed terms. “If forced to choose between the agreement proposed by Trump and war, Iran will choose the latter.”
Meanwhile, several regional actors, including Turkey, Oman, and Qatar, are reportedly attempting to mediate in an effort to prevent further escalation.
