According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 9, 2026, US President Donald Trump said Iran had recently reached out because it was eager to negotiate, claiming the country “called a little while ago, they want to make a deal so badly.” He made the remarks while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One during a discussion about tensions involving Tehran.

Trump was also asked why Iran would allegedly target commercial vessels if it was genuinely interested in reaching an agreement with the United States. In response, he suggested that Iran’s recent actions reflected instability rather than a lack of interest in negotiations.
“they’re sort of a crazy. They’re a little bit out of control, but they want to make a deal — badly.”
The US president also delivered a stern warning over any potential attacks on American personnel or facilities. He said Washington would respond with overwhelming force if Iran targeted US interests, making clear that retaliation would be swift and severe.
Trump stated, “every time they hit us we’re going to hit them twenty[fold].”
