In Abia State, It Costs ₦200m to Put Up a Billboard; Now, Multiply ₦200m by the 36 States—Okonkwo

During an interview on Channels Television on Friday, July 31, 2026, Kenneth Okonkwo, ADC spokesperson, criticized what he described as the high cost of political advertising, alleging that the fees being charged for presidential billboards could undermine a level playing field ahead of the 2027 general election.

Okonkwo expressed concern over the reported cost of erecting presidential campaign billboards in some states, arguing that the cumulative expense across the country would place a significant financial burden on candidates. He accused the ruling APC of creating an environment that makes it more difficult for opposition parties to campaign effectively and reach voters.

According to him, “Is it not troubling that in Abia State, you’re hearing fantabulous amounts for you to put on your billboard? You’re saying ₦200 million for a presidential person to put up his billboards. Now let me tell you, times ₦200 million by the 36 states, including the FCT, and you will see the perfidy.
