Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, authorises arrests without conducting adequate investigations beforehand.
According to Daily Post, in an interview with DCL Hausa, Nasir El-Rufai alleged that the National Security Adviser frequently bypasses due process by directly contacting security agencies to effect arrests without prior investigation.
The former Kaduna governor further claimed that the NSA extends his involvement to judicial proceedings. He alleged that Ribadu exerts influence over bail decisions by urging members of the judiciary to deny bail to certain suspects, including individuals whom he said were initially detained without thorough investigative procedures.
“I feel ashamed when I remember he was once my friend,” El-Rufai said.
“Nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration.”
El-Rufai further cited the alleged arrest of a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Kaduna State.
“He’s lying, they have not stopped. Even last week, they arrested Bashir Jamoh. What did he do?” El-Rufai asked.
He alleged that Jamoh was still being held in custody, describing the situation as a violation of constitutional provisions which stipulate that a detained individual must be brought before a court within 48 hours.
The former governor also voiced concerns about his own safety, suggesting that he might be the next target of arrest.
