Lere Olayinka has reacted strongly to Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent comments about President Bola Tinubu and the 2027 election, suggesting that the governor’s position is influenced by personal disappointment rather than clear political principles.
Governor Makinde had earlier stated that he would not support President Tinubu in 2027 and urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to allow people make their own political choices. He also recalled a past meeting where Wike allegedly promised to help Tinubu gain support within the PDP, a move Makinde said shocked him. According to the Oyo State governor, his main focus now is ensuring the survival of the PDP.
Reacting to this development via X, Olayinka dismissed Makinde’s stance as insincere. He argued that Makinde’s criticism of the president would not exist if his preferred nominee for a ministerial position from Oyo State had been accepted by the Tinubu administration. In his view, the governor would still be openly praising the president if that appointment had gone through.
In his words, “If Governor Seyi Makinde’s nominee for Oyo State ministerial position was accepted by President Tinubu, he will still be clapping for the President now.”
