The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly traced several luxury real estate properties in Egypt to Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. The discovery was made during an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as governor between 2015 and 2023.
According to reports by TheCable, investigators identified six properties in high-end areas of Cairo, Egypt. These properties include three luxury villas and six apartments located in upscale estates such as Arabilla Estate, Banafsik Estate, Oriana II, and Cairo Festival City in New Cairo. Villas in these areas are estimated to cost between $1 million and $1.3 million, while the apartments are valued at roughly $500,000 each. Sources close to the investigation claim the properties were purchased between 2021 and 2023 while el-Rufai was still serving as governor. The discovery has drawn attention because el-Rufai previously stated in a 2023 interview that he owned only one house in Kaduna and had no interest in building mansions or acquiring properties abroad. His earlier statement has now become a point of debate amid the ongoing probe.
Multiple Nigerian agencies are currently investigating the former governor. Apart from the ICPC, he has also been questioned by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The DSS has even filed charges against him over allegations that he illegally intercepted a phone conversation involving Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser. In response, el-Rufai has denied any wrongdoing and insists the investigation is politically motivated. He has filed lawsuits against the ICPC, accusing the commission of unlawful invasion of his home, defamation, and forgery, while demanding ₦1 billion in damages. The case continues to generate significant political and public interest in Nigeria…..See More
