I only wanted to get TikTok followers’ – Man arrested for raising fake bandits attack alarm begs police

According to reports by DAILY POST on Sunday May 24 2026, a young man identified as Qawiyu from Ibaragun, Ogun State, has appealed to the Nigeria Police for forgiveness after admitting that he staged a fake bandit attack video to gain followers on TikTok.

Qawiyu, who is currently in police custody, confessed that the alarm raised in the viral video was false and intended solely to attract attention on social media.

He also appealed for leniency, noting that customers’ clothes for the upcoming Ileya celebration are still in his shop.

Explaining how the video was produced, he said the Fulani herdsman featured in the clip usually moves around the area behind his shop with his cows.

According to him, he persuaded the herdsman to participate in the recording after repeated requests, while his apprentice handled the filming.

He admitted that he created the content after seeing others use similar tactics online to gain popularity and increase their social media following.
