In a recent video shared on Facebook on Thursday, February 13, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, expressed strong criticism of Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi while addressing issues of insecurity and religious responsibility in Nigeria.
According to Dokubo, “I don’t like Sheikh Ahmad Gumi at all; I keep saying it because you can’t justify evil,” as he reiterated his long standing opposition to what he described as attempts to rationalize or excuse criminal activities.
Dokubo stated that his disagreement with Sheikh Gumi is based on principle rather than personal rivalry. According to him, any narrative that appears to defend or minimize the actions of violent groups is unacceptable and dangerous.
He emphasized that religious leaders carry significant influence and must speak clearly against crime and violence. According to Dokubo, failing to condemn wrongdoing without ambiguity weakens public trust and undermines efforts to restore security.
The activist also noted that insecurity in Nigeria requires firm and consistent messaging from leaders across all faiths. According to him, moral clarity is essential in confronting terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violence.
Dokubo concluded by stating that his position remains unchanged, adding that no individual, regardless of status, should justify evil or create room for criminal behavior under any circumstance.
