Remi Omowaye, the former Osun State Commissioner for Works, has claimed that Governor Ademola Adeleke faced public disapproval during the recent Iwude festival in Ilesha, where attendees allegedly booed him while he delivered a speech. Omowaye said the reaction reflected widespread rejection of the governor’s leadership and performance across the state.
He made the assertion during an interview with TVC News while responding to claims by Governor Adeleke that his administration is correcting failures of the previous APC government, particularly under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Omowaye dismissed that narrative, insisting that the current governor lacks a proper grasp of governance in Osun State.
According to him, residents of Ilesha remain unhappy with Adeleke’s policies, especially in the education sector. Omowaye said the Oyetola administration established a university in Ilesha but accused the current government of raising tuition fees to about ₦1.5 million, making the institution unaffordable for ordinary families.
He explained that while the APC government was in office, they conducted a needs assessment that revealed a shortage of about 5,000 teachers.
Despite severe financial constraints and poor federal allocations, the Oyetola administration recruited 1,500 teachers through a transparent process conducted by JAMB. Omowaye accused Adeleke of sacking those teachers without replacing them, leaving many schools understaffed.
He further alleged that the Adeleke administration collected application fees from job seekers without employing anyone, worsening unemployment. Omowaye also criticized infrastructure projects under the current government, claiming some newly constructed roads washed away shortly after they were completed.
In his words, “Governor Ademola Adeleke is not in charge. He does not even know what is happening in the state. It’s quite unfortunate, and the people of Osun have already rejected him.”
“I come from Ilesha. I am in Ilesha as I speak to you. We had our Iwude festival a few days ago. When he was reading his speech, people were booing him.”
