Go & Discuss It With Peter Obi-Olayinka Tells Oseni After Requesting Date & Time For Presidential Candidates To Debate

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to a call by Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, for presidential candidates to debate the issue of fuel subsidy.

Oseni had suggested that all presidential candidates should agree on a date and time to hold a debate focused solely on subsidy and economic policies.

In a post on his X handle, the broadcaster wrote:

“Can we set a date and time for all Presidential candidate to debate on subsidy alone. Ideas driven. Data based. All candidates must attend! Let’s go.”

However, Olayinka dismissed the call and directed Oseni to discuss the matter with his preferred candidate, Peter Obi.

“Go and be discussing with your candidate, Peter Obi,” Olayinka replied.

The exchange comes amid renewed debate over fuel subsidy and the economic policies being proposed by politicians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The issue has generated fresh controversy following comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his campaign team on plans for a possible targeted subsidy intervention if elected.
