Adeola Olabiyi, widow of the late Yoruba actor Ayobami Olabiyi, popularly known as Bobo B, has recounted a disturbing experience she faced just weeks after losing her husband.
Speaking during an emotional interview on Kunle Afod’s YouTube program Ni Iranti, Mrs. Olabiyi revealed that a man she regarded as one of her late husband’s closest friends approached her with an offensive and shocking proposal.
According to her, barely a month after burying her husband, the man visited her under the pretense of offering support and checking on her welfare. What began as what she thought was a condolence visit quickly turned into an upsetting confrontation when he revealed his true intentions.
“To my surprise, he said he wanted to start a relationship with me,” Mrs. Olabiyi explained. “He told me that he wanted to sleep with me and would later marry me. I was shocked beyond words.”
She said the man went further to make a crude justification for his request, asking her, “If I don’t marry my friend’s wife, should I marry my enemy’s wife?” The comment, she said, left her both horrified and angry, as it suggested he believed it was his “right” to take over her life and home.
Mrs. Olabiyi described the incident as one of the most painful experiences of her mourning period. She expressed deep disappointment that someone her late husband had trusted and called a friend would try to take advantage of her grief.
“This was someone who used to come to our house freely and laugh with my husband,” she said. “I never imagined that just a few weeks after my husband’s burial, he would look me in the face and say such things. It felt like betrayal on so many levels.”
She revealed that the man even demanded her phone number so he could continue contacting her and “take over” the role of husband. Mrs. Olabiyi said she immediately rejected his advances and made it clear she would never consider such an arrangement.
“I told him straight that what he was asking for was wrong and insulting. I am still mourning my husband. The thought of it alone was unbearable,” she said.
Mrs. Olabiyi’s revelation has sparked outrage and discussion among viewers and fans online, with many condemning the actions of the unnamed friend as predatory and insensitive.
Social media users have flooded comment sections with messages of support for the widow, commending her strength and her refusal to be pressured into a relationship while grieving.
Some commenters also used the opportunity to highlight what they described as a broader issue in society, where widows are often subjected to unsolicited advances, harassment, or cultural expectations to marry within their late husband’s circle.
Ayobami Olabiyi, popularly known as Bobo B, was a beloved figure in the Yoruba film industry, known for his comic roles and charismatic personality.
His passing earlier this year shocked fans and colleagues, who took to social media to celebrate his contributions to Nollywood and express condolences to his family.
For Mrs. Olabiyi, the experience remains a painful reminder of the challenges widows face. She urged society to show compassion and respect to women mourning their spouses, rather than adding to their pain with inappropriate demands or expectations. See, More, Here>>>>
