According to a report by Punch on Friday, November 7, 2025, the Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, has praised the recent decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Concern.”
He described the move as a moral reminder to Nigerian leaders to confront the country’s long-standing religious and ethnic injustices.
In a statement issued in Kaduna, Kure said the designation had drawn international attention to what he called the suffering of Christians in Northern Nigeria.
He noted that the situation had been ignored for too long by successive Nigerian governments, which failed to address discrimination and violence against minority communities.
According to him, both Christian and Muslim leaders in the region had failed to speak boldly against injustice.
Their silence, he said, had encouraged policies that allow inequality and persecution to thrive.
Kure accused several institutions in the North, including major universities, of denying Christians the right to build churches, while mosques were freely established.
He said such practices only deepen divisions and promote intolerance.
The cleric alleged that some violent groups enjoyed protection from powerful interests.
He mentioned forced marriages, land seizures, and lack of opportunities for Christians as part of a broader pattern of persecution.
Kure described Trump’s action as a “divine correction” that should push African leaders to rethink their governance.
“The recent designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Concern’ by the U.S. President Donald J. Trump, is a welcome development and a long-overdue call to conscience,” he said.
