Chief Dele Momodu, veteran political commentator and publisher, has fired a stern warning to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over discussions surrounding the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
In an interview with Channels Television, Momodu cautioned against prematurely elevating former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi above other ADC contenders; He described such moves as unfair and potentially divisive within the party.
“Calling Peter Obi the best ahead of other ADC candidates is an insult to the rest; we have other prominent figures with significant experience, and premature elevation can cause division,” Momodu said.
The political commentator emphasized that unity is essential for ADC to position itself as a credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); According to him, internal cohesion and respect for democratic procedures are non-negotiable for a party aiming to challenge the ruling party at the national level.
Momodu also addressed threats from party supporters who attempt to condition their allegiance on the selection of a particular candidate, labeling such behavior as detrimental to the party’s collective interest.
“You cannot threaten a political party by saying ‘if my candidate does not get the ticket, I will withdraw’; cooperation of everyone is crucial in a coalition,” he warned.
He urged ADC members to prioritize long-term strategy over personal preferences, highlighting that adherence to party rules and internal discipline is vital for presenting a united front in 2027; Divisive actions, he said, could compromise the party’s ability to compete effectively against the APC.
Momodu concluded by stressing that the party’s success relies on collaboration, patience, and respect for internal democratic processes, reminding members that the greater goal must always outweigh individual ambitions.
