Chief Bisi Akande, former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress has revealed that President Bola Tinubu initially expressed concerns about lacking sufficient funds to contest for the presidency, during an interview on the Edmund Obilo Show on Splash FM 105.5.

The elder statesman disclosed that during the period before Tinubu declared his presidential ambition, the then-Lagos political leader was reluctant to discuss the possibility of running for Nigeria’s highest office. “Anybody that talk to him about presidency, he was quarrelling with them,” Akande stated, describing Tinubu’s initial resistance to the idea.

However, when Akande personally approached him about the matter, Tinubu’s response centered on financial concerns. “And then I met him and he said ‘baba, do you have money?’ If I had the kind of money that people have to be president, I will rank with Dangote,” Akande quoted Tinubu as saying.

The comparison to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, underscores the perceived financial demands of mounting a successful presidential campaign in Nigeria. Tinubu’s statement suggests he believed his resources, while substantial, fell short of what he considered necessary for a presidential run.

Despite these early reservations about finances and his initial reluctance to discuss presidential ambitions, Tinubu eventually launched his campaign and secured victory in the February 2023 presidential election, becoming Nigeria’s 16th president.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
