An Arise News correspondent, Ferdinand Duruoha, has provided fresh details on the recent airstrikes carried out in parts of Sokoto State, revealing that intelligence reports identified Tambuwal as a key hideout for criminal elements operating in the region.
Speaking during an interview broadcast on Arise News, Duruoha said the strikes occurred in two local government areas of Sokoto State — Tambuwal and Tangaza. He explained that the locations were carefully selected based on intelligence gathered through collaboration between Nigerian authorities and the United States.
“According to intelligence, Tambuwal is somewhat of a hideout for some of those criminal elements,” Duruoha stated, adding that the area has been linked to activities of armed groups, even though attacks are not frequent there.
The Arise News correspondent disclosed that upon arriving in Sokoto, he and his team immediately visited some of the affected sites. In Tambuwal, the strike reportedly took place in Jabo community. He confirmed that no casualties were recorded in that location.
“The good thing is that there was no casualty as regards the strike in Tambuwal,” Duruoha said. “From what we saw, the strike happened on a farm, leaving behind a trench, but no loss of lives.”
However, the situation appeared different in Tangaza Local Government Area. According to Duruoha, Tangaza is a known transit route linking Nigeria to the Niger Republic and has been repeatedly used by gunmen.
“Tangaza is a known transit route from Nigeria to Niger, and residents have confirmed seeing gunmen use those routes,” he explained.
While he noted that casualties were reported in Tangaza, Duruoha said exact figures could not be confirmed as journalists had not yet accessed the area.
He further revealed that security sources confirmed extensive intelligence work preceded the operation. “A whole lot went into this in terms of intelligence, with Nigerian authorities working closely with the United States,” he said.
