Abiola Told Me He Cried When He Found Out The Chief Surgeon Of King’ Hospital Was Nigerian—Nwanyanwu

Dan Nwanyanwu, the National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party, has shared one reason MKO Abiola gave him for wanting to become president in 1993

In an interview with Arise TV, Nwanyanwu said Abiola told him about a time he went for surgery at King’s Hospital in London. He said Abiola explained that he was wheeled into the theatre and saw six white doctors. He said Abiola told him that after about ten minutes he asked the doctors to carry out the surgery so he could leave, but they replied that they were waiting for the chief surgeon.

Nwanyanwu said Abiola explained that shortly after, a black doctor entered the theater and greeted him in Yoruba. He stated that Abiola asked the doctor his name and whether he was Nigerian, and the doctor said yes.

Nwanyanwu said Abiola told him that tears dropped from his eyes at that moment, and he decided to run for presidency so he could bring Nigerian medical experts back home and establish quality hospitals in Nigeria

In Nwanyanwu’s words: “Abiola called me one day and said ‘Comrade, do you know why I want to be president? I said tell me. He said ‘There was a time I went for surgery in King’s hospital in London. They wheeled me to the theater, 6 doctors were in the room, they were all white doctors.
