Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized what he described as disturbing statements made by an unnamed Islamic cleric regarding the upbringing of Arabic students.
Olayinka made the comments in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he also addressed what he sees as a broader trend of religious extremism taking root in society. His remarks appear to be part of a wider conversation on public safety, education, and the influence of religious leaders on young people’s behavior.
According to him, “The other time, a certain Islamic cleric openly said Arabic school students should be taught how to use guns and other weapons, and he was not questioned.”
In the same thread, Olayinka linked the issue to what he described as emerging forms of religious extremism, contrasting them with traditional values. He also used unrelated examples to illustrate how certain cultural practices and teachings can evolve in ways that, in his view, diverge from positive social norms.
