Soludo: Many Of Them Believed That Throwing Kanu Into Prison Would Stop Agitation For Biafra-Sowore

Human rights campaigner and former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to recent developments in the South-East, saying some political leaders wrongly assumed that the detention of Nnamdi Kanu would put an end to the Biafra movement.

Sowore made this known in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. His comments followed the decision by the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, to temporarily close the Onitsha Main Market.

Reports indicate that the market was shut for one week after the governor observed that a number of traders continued to comply with the sit-at-home directive allegedly issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), despite repeated assurances of improved security.

Governor Soludo, while addressing the situation, expressed disappointment that traders failed to resume business activities, stating that several appeals had been made to encourage them to return to public spaces.

Reacting to the closure, Sowore argued that coercive actions would not resolve the underlying issues. He maintained that adherence to the sit-at-home order would persist as long as justice remained unaddressed.

According to him, the belief that imprisoning Nnamdi Kanu would end the Biafra agitation was a serious miscalculation. He further stated that shutting down markets, including those in Anambra State, would not bring meaningful change unless fairness and justice are ensured.
