Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker, has reacted to the rumors that President Bola Tinubu is planning to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima with a Christian running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election to please President Donald Trump, and that he is being considered as one of the possible replacements for Shettima
In an interview with Channels Television, Dogara said he would have sincerely preferred to be left out of the discussion. However, he said he felt it was necessary to say something about the rumors. He said whatever decision Tinubu’s government makes should not be because of external pressure, but because it is the right thing to do.
In Dogara’s words: “Seun I would have sincerely pleaded with you to leave me out of this but perhaps let me say something. I think whatever we do should not be because we are afraid of anybody breathing down our necks, it should be because it is the right thing to be done. We are talking about running an inclusive government, we are talking about bringing everybody in this country together so they will be able to build a nation that works for all of us.
