Betty Akeredolu Reacts To Comment Of Osita Chidoka That Nigeria Should Adopt One Term Presidency

The former First Lady of Ondo state, Betty Akeredolu has reacted to the statement that was made by former Minister of Aviation and Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, Osita Chidoka.

The reaction of Betty Akeredolu was contained in a post that she shared on her official X handle on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

Her statement is coming after the former Minister of Aviation called for a single term presidency. In the post that Osita Chidoka shared on his page, he argued that the current two-term system entrenches permanent electioneering and distracts leaders from effective governance.

Here is what Osita Chidoka wrote on his official X handle;

“Nigeria has effectively erased 2026 from its calendar while all eyes are on 2027. Yet life does not pause for elections. Children will still sit for WAEC and JAMB. People will still go to hospitals. Insecurity will either deepen or abate. Governance must serve citizens every year, not just in election seasons”.

However, Betty Akeredolu has now shared her thoughts after the post surfaced online. In a statement that she shared on her page, she backed the comment that was made by Osita Chidoka.

Here is what she wrote on her official X handle;

“I strongly align with Osita Chidoka’s call for a single-term presidency. This position is not new to me. Anyone who follows my public commentary knows that I have consistently advocated for a one-term presidency and I remain convinced that it offers Nigeria a clearer path to focused governance”.
