Lawyer Maxwell Opara has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is wasting his time trying to influence the United States against President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the President understands American politics and has the experience to navigate the country’s political system.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, 23 July, 2026, Opara said President Tinubu’s years of living in the United States and his political experience have given him an advantage. He described the President as a skilled politician who knows how to handle political challenges both at home and abroad.
According to Opara, “Our president Tinubu understands the game and he has lived in America. And people call him political Maradona. He knows how to enter America so Atiku Abubakar is just wasting his time.”
The lawyer said any attempt to tarnish President Tinubu’s image in the United States would not achieve its intended goal. He argued that Tinubu has built relationships over the years and understands how the American political system works.
Opara’s comments come amid political debates over reports that Atiku allegedly engaged an American lobbyist to influence opinion against President Tinubu. He maintained that such efforts would not succeed because of the President’s political experience and international exposure.
