Reveals that eight influential Muslim-majority countries have officially agreed to join the newly established Board of Peace created by U.S. President Donald Trump. The decision reflects a coordinated diplomatic effort that had been quietly negotiated over several weeks.
The nations involved—Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—will each nominate a representative to the board, according to a joint statement released by their foreign ministers. Together, the group brings both major regional actors and countries with broad influence across the Muslim world.
While the participation of Egypt, Pakistan, and the UAE was largely expected due to earlier indications of support, other countries moved more cautiously. Saudi Arabia’s inclusion attracted particular attention, as President Trump had publicly pressed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to take part, while Riyadh had previously remained non-committal.
The Board of Peace was created through a United Nations Security Council resolution and is tasked with overseeing post-conflict governance and reconstruction in Gaza through the end of 2027. However, U.S. officials have suggested the body could also serve as a platform for addressing wider regional conflicts beyond Gaza.
The board itself is expected to meet infrequently, with only a few sessions planned each year. Day-to-day supervision of Gaza-related matters will be managed by a smaller Gaza Executive Board, launched last Friday, which includes representatives from Turkey, Qatar, the UAE, and the United States.
In a joint communiqué, the eight countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting a fair and enduring peace based on the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood under international law, with the aim of fostering long-term security and stability throughout the region.
