According to a report by the Times of Israel on Sunday 18 January, 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to convene members of his smaller war cabinet on Sunday morning, calling them in for a 10 a.m. meeting, about an hour ahead of the full cabinet session, according to reports in the Hebrew-language press.
The move comes amid fresh concern in Jerusalem over a new initiative announced by US President Donald Trump. His administration has set up what it’s calling a “Board of Peace,” and its executive committee is slated to include senior figures from Turkey and Qatar – two countries often sharply critical of Israel. The Walla news site reported that the composition of the panel has not gone over quietly in Netanyahu’s office.
Behind the scenes, officials appear to be weighing how publicly, or forcefully, to respond. “We will hold a discussion and see how we respond to this,” one unnamed diplomatic source was quoted as saying by Walla, after Israel made clear it was unhappy with the lineup.
Meanwhile, Ynet reported that the Sunday meeting won’t be limited to Washington’s latest diplomatic framework. Ministers are also expected to review developments related to Iran, including growing speculation that Trump could consider ordering strikes against regime targets.
