Sultan: How Come All These 5 Groups That Are Terrorising Nigeria Are Using Islam As Cover?-Wale Oke

According to the report from the Sun on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has made a direct appeal to Islamic religious leaders in Nigeria to take a clear public stance against terrorist groups operating under the banner of Islam.

In his address, Bishop Oke specifically called on the Sultan of Sokoto and other prominent Islamic leaders to speak out on the issue.

“I am appealing to leaders in the Islamic religion, beginning with His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, down the line, that they should speak out clearly,” Bishop Oke said.

The religious leader raised concerns about the pattern of terrorist groups invoking Islamic declarations during their violent operations.

“How come that all these five groups that are terrorising Nigeria are using Islam as a cover?” he questioned. “When they want to go and kill people, they always start by shouting, ‘Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar’, and it’s recorded.”

Bishop Oke’s statement highlights the ongoing debate about religious identity and extremism in Nigeria, where various armed groups have claimed religious motivations for their activities, creating tension and security challenges across the nation.
