PDP Chieftain Ja’afar Sani Bello has criticized former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso’s demand for either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket as a precondition for joining any political party, arguing that his electoral performance does not justify such conditions.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Bello compared Kwankwaso’s vote tally with other opposition leaders to challenge his political leverage. “Atiku Abubakar garnered 7 million votes in the last election. Peter Obi garnered over 6 million votes in the last election. Rabiu Kwankwaso garnered only 1 million votes and 90% of those votes were from Kano State. So he has only one state to vouch for. So, what is his political currency?” he asked.
The PDP chieftain further contextualized Kwankwaso’s electoral performance by comparing it to historical figures from Kano State. He noted that Mallam Aminu Kano secured 2 million votes from Kano during the 1979 elections despite fewer registered voters at that time, arguing that Kwankwaso has not matched the political influence of his predecessors.
