According to Al Jazeera English, Iran’s intelligence services have announced the seizure of what they described as U.S.-made weapons and explosive devices from several residential properties, as tensions escalate between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s handling of ongoing anti-government protests.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the intelligence agency said arms and explosive equipment were recovered from the homes of “cell members” allegedly operating inside the country. Authorities claimed the suspects had hidden the materials in multiple locations, describing the operation as part of a broader effort to dismantle what they termed foreign-backed networks.
The announcement comes amid repeated warnings from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused Iranian authorities of violently suppressing demonstrators and has cautioned Tehran against further crackdowns. While Washington has not responded directly to the latest claims, Iranian officials have increasingly linked the unrest to external interference.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said earlier that security agencies possess audio recordings of voices “from abroad” issuing instructions to protesters. He argued that the demonstrations had been exploited by outside actors seeking to destabilize the country and justify international intervention.
Iranian authorities have specifically accused the United States and Israel of deploying “foreign agents” to foment violence, asserting that the goal is to create a pretext for potential military action. State officials maintain that the protests, which began as public demonstrations, were later “hijacked” by organized groups acting on foreign direction.
The claims follow a series of measures by Iranian security forces, including arrests, tightened movement in major cities, and restrictions on communications. Tehran has repeatedly rejected international criticism of its response to the protests, describing the unrest as a matter of national security rather than civil dissent.
