Anthony Joshua Was Stable, Moving Him Into A Vehicle Instead Of An Ambulance Was The Right Call -FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has defended its handling of the road traffic incident involving heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua, insisting that established emergency protocols were followed and that the response was swift and appropriate.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV on December 30, 2025, FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide explained that the decision to move Joshua in a security vehicle rather than an ambulance was based on an immediate assessment of his condition. “Anthony Joshua was stable, so moving him into a vehicle instead of an ambulance was the right call.”

Ogungbemide clarified that contrary to public perception, FRSC maintains multiple emergency response points along the corridor where the incident occurred. “On that axis, we have more than five emergency ambulance points. We have one at Sagamu where we even have a roadside clinic. We have at Ijebu-Ode, at Ikorodu Road, and at that end,” he said.

According to Ogungbemide, response time was under three minutes because patrol officers were already nearby. “The patrol team were on the inward Lagos lane. Once the crash occurred, they made a U-turn and got to the scene immediately,” they stated.

He added that securing the scene is always the first priority. “There are processes and procedures. The first thing is to cordon off the area to prevent another crash from happening,” he explained.

Addressing concerns about potential internal injuries and the optics of asking Joshua to sit upright, the official said trained personnel made a real-time judgment. “Our operators were there. He responded fine, and at that moment, they assessed that he was stable,” he noted. “It’s not about what people feel; it’s about doing the right thing at the right time.”

Ogungbemide also highlighted the role of Joshua’s security detail. “He had DSS operatives with him, and they moved him straight into their vehicle after stability was confirmed,” he said.
