In a recent update on his official Facebook page, prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi warned Nigerian authorities about the potential dangers of foreign involvement in the nation’s security affairs.

Gumi stated, “The argument is straightforward: Do we need assistance? Yes, every country requires support for its security. However, not from criminals who disregard international law, racists, religious extremists, or known facilitators of genocide.” His remarks raise concerns about the credibility, motivations, and ethical considerations of external parties engaged in security efforts in Nigeria.

This warning from Gumi comes as discussions intensify regarding foreign military actions in Nigeria, particularly in light of recent US air strikes in the northwest aimed at purported extremist groups. While such actions might be presented as counter-terrorism efforts, Gumi cautioned against accepting help from individuals with dubious intentions, stating that it could worsen security issues rather than alleviate them.
