Hezbollah Naval Operative Captured Last Year Was Key To Group’s Secret Maritime File: IDF

According to a report by The Times of Israel, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have released new information regarding a naval operation carried out last year, which led to the capture of a significant Hezbollah operative.

The raid was conducted by Israel’s elite Shayetet 13 naval commandos on November 1, 2024, at a chalet along the coast of Batroun, south of Tripoli, approximately 140 kilometers north of Israel’s maritime border with Lebanon.

The captured individual, Imad Amhaz, was identified by the IDF as one of the most important figures in Hezbollah’s “secret maritime file” and a member of the coast-to-sea missile unit, designated as unit 7900.

Amhaz had received military training in Iran and Lebanon and had developed extensive maritime expertise, reportedly intended for the execution of maritime terror attacks. He also trained at a civilian Lebanese maritime institute, which authorities said was exploited by Hezbollah to advance its military objectives.

The IDF published footage of Amhaz’s interrogation, highlighting his role within Hezbollah’s maritime operations. During the interrogation, Amhaz reportedly provided sensitive intelligence about the unit, described as one of the group’s most secretive projects. The unit was reportedly focused on creating an organized infrastructure for maritime attacks, operating under civilian cover to target Israeli and international locations.

The secret maritime project was directed by the late Hezbollah leaders Hassan Nasrallah and Fuad Shukr, as well as Ali Abd al-Hassan Nour al-Din, head of the secret maritime file. The IDF stated that the capture of Amhaz, combined with the elimination of the organization’s leadership, disrupted the group’s progress at a critical stage.

The operation has been described by Israeli authorities as a strategic measure to prevent Hezbollah from advancing its maritime capabilities. The release of new information and interrogation footage provides insight into the scope of Hezbollah’s naval ambitions and Israel’s counter-terrorism efforts.

The IDF continues to monitor developments related to Hezbollah’s operations in the region. The capture of high-value operatives such as Amhaz is seen as part of broader security measures undertaken by Israel to prevent maritime threats and ensure national and regional safety.
