Children Deserve A Parent Who Is Emotionally Present, Mentally Sound, Sober Most Of The Time — Nwoko

According to a post on X on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has issued a strongly worded statement addressing the ongoing public controversy involving his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that recent social media narratives surrounding their family are misleading and inconsistent with established court decisions.

In a statement titled “Take the Window of Quietude for Therapy,” released by his communication team and shared on social media on Tuesday, the lawmaker accused Daniels of misrepresenting events and using online sympathy to distort facts already settled by legal processes.

According to the statement, the family expressed concern over what it described as “misleading and inconsistent” portrayals of long-standing family practices, particularly regarding the public sharing of moments involving the children. The statement noted that such postings were neither new nor previously considered controversial within the family setting.

“It has always been a shared tradition, and the same individual now objecting has repeatedly and voluntarily posted not only her own children, but also the children of other wives over the years, without any objection, hesitation, or concern for privacy,” the statement read.

The communication team further argued that actions now being described as harmful were previously accepted and only being recharacterised because they no longer align with Daniels’ current narrative. It added that claims suggesting she was forcefully prevented from being present in the children’s lives were inaccurate.

“Her prolonged absence has been by choice, not force,” the statement said, adding that the children were safeguarded in an environment prioritising routine, care, and emotional balance.

The statement also addressed concerns raised about Daniels’ well-being, stressing that calls for rehabilitation should not be interpreted as punishment. “Children deserve a parent who is emotionally present, mentally sound, and sober most of the time. This is not an unreasonable expectation; it is the minimum standard of care any parent owes their children,” it said.

Crucially, Senator Nwoko’s team disclosed that the matter had already been adjudicated by a court. According to the statement, the ruling was resolved in the senator’s favour, with clear directives that Daniels must undergo drug rehabilitation and be assessed by the Abuja Social Welfare Department before access to the children could be restored.

It added that the court struck out and dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed against Senator Nwoko and the Nigeria Police, while also adjourning the substantive matter to February 4, 2026.

Despite the ruling, the family said it deliberately chose not to publicise the court’s decision to preserve privacy and dignity. However, the statement criticised the decision to mobilise online sentiment instead, warning that such actions risk using the children as “emotional shields” to deflect from unresolved personal issues.

“If there is a genuine desire for contact with the children, the most responsible and meaningful step remains compliance with the court-directed rehabilitation process,” the statement concluded.
