According to the report from the Vanguard, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Alex Ogbonnia stated that Obasanjo emphasized that Nigeria’s progress hinges on embracing meritocracy and fully including the Igbo in national affairs.

Regarding the planned nationwide protests, he stated that the Igbo community has been advised not to participate.

He questioned whether the exclusion of Igbo from top security positions under President Buhari’s administration improved the country’s security situation, asserting that the Igbo people have persevered despite adversities.

Quoting Robert Schuller, he underscored the resilience of the Igbo people, suggesting that while difficult circumstances are temporary, strong individuals endure.

He said, “On Saturday, March 25, 2023, during the occasion of one year in Office of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo condemned the persistent aversion to the people of southeastern extraction, which he described as Igbophobia. Obasanjo added that unless Nigeria throws its doors open to merit and full inclusion of the Igbo in national affairs, the country will continue to flounder and grope in the dark.

The Igbo are once again requested not to join the forthcoming nationwide protest.
