In My Days, I Was One Of Those Controlling The Drink Business, I Drink Only One Alcohol -Peter Obi

Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, has stated that although he was once a major player in Nigeria’s alcoholic beverage industry, he personally consumes very little alcohol.

In an interview on THE CLARITY ZONE PODCAST, Obi said he was deeply involved in the drink business during his time as a businessman, and was among those who controlled the market. However, he clarified that his involvement was strictly professional and not reflective of his personal habits.

He explained that while he does not condemn those who drink, he personally limits his alcohol intake to one bottle of stout, which he drinks occasionally at home, typically on Saturdays.

Obi said his decision is based on personal discipline and lifestyle preference, and not a moral judgment against alcohol consumers. He emphasized that business success does not require adopting the habits associated with the industry one operates in.

He said, “I’m not saying those who drink are wrong o. I used to be a businessman selling drinks. In my days, I was one of those controlling the drink business. I don’t drink o. I drink only one alcohol. I drink stout once a week, like on Saturdays I drink in my house one bottle.
