Awomolo argues before the court that documents not signed by Nnamdi Kanu lack legal validity

According to a report by Punch on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, At Tuesday’s proceedings in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), urged the court to disregard certain documents submitted by the detained IPOB leader, describing them as invalid and of no evidential value.

Awomolo informed the court that the documents served on him by Kanu lacked proper endorsement and were not signed or certified by the court, making them inadmissible. He argued that such documents should not be relied upon in the ongoing case, insisting that they held no probative or legal weight.

The senior advocate maintained that proper court procedure requires all documents to be duly signed and endorsed to be recognized as valid evidence. He, therefore, asked the court to discountenance the documents, allow him to adopt his final written address, and fix a date for judgment.

However, in a swift response, the presiding judge overruled the Federal Government’s counsel. The court clarified that the records before it indicated that the disputed documents were properly signed and accompanied by proof of payment, confirming their authenticity and validity.

The ruling by the judge allowed the documents to remain part of the court’s record, enabling Kanu’s legal team to rely on them in their defense.

The development marks another turning point in the high-profile trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, who faces charges bordering on treasonable felony and other alleged offenses.

Nnamdi Kanu’s case has continued to draw national and international attention, with various groups calling for his release and urging the Federal Government to pursue dialogue rather than prolonged prosecution.
