Trump Responds To Israel’s Move To Annex West Bank, Threatens To Withdraw Support For Tel Aviv

According to a report by Al Jazeera English on Thursday 23 October, 2025, the White House has drawn a clear line regarding Israel’s plans for the West Bank, with President Donald Trump saying the United States would withdraw its support if Israel moved to annex the territory.

In an interview with Time magazine, Trump stressed that such a move is off the table. “It won’t happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries,” he said, emphasizing that Washington’s diplomatic commitments in the region leave no room for unilateral action by Israel. He added that any annexation would mean Israel “would lose all of its support from the United States.”

The warning comes amid growing debate in Israel over extending sovereignty to parts of the West Bank. Earlier this week, the Knesset approved the first reading of two bills that would apply Israeli law to certain settlements in the territory. A separate declaration calling on the government to push ahead with annexation passed in July, backed by 71 lawmakers out of 120, with 13 abstentions.

Vice President JD Vance didn’t mince words either, dismissing the idea of annexation as, in his view, a reckless political maneuver. He characterized it as little more than a stunt that could backfire diplomatically.

Washington appears intent on keeping the peace with its Arab allies – reminding Israel that U.S. support, though historically strong, has its limits when regional stability is at stake.
