During an interview on Channels Television on Friday, July 31, 2026, Kenneth Okonkwo criticized the defamation suit filed by Peter Obi against him, questioning why Obi had not taken similar legal action against other public figures like Omoyele Sowore and Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation, who had made critical remarks about him.
Okonkwo made the comments while responding to questions about his ongoing legal dispute with Obi over statements relating to the internal affairs of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Obi had earlier demanded a retraction and apology from Okonkwo over comments he described as defamatory, but Okonkwo has declined to withdraw his remarks.
Okonkwo argued that Obi had been selective in pursuing legal action over public criticism. His remarks come amid heightened political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general election, with the dispute between the two former political allies continuing to attract public attention.
