In a recent interview on News Central TV, on Friday, July 24, 2026, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NDC vice presidential candidate, expressed concern over the worsening security situation across Nigeria. He warned that insecurity has continued to spread beyond the regions where it first emerged, posing a serious threat to national stability and economic development.
Kwankwaso recalled that violent attacks were initially concentrated in the North-East before spreading to the North-West and North-Central. He noted that incidents of insecurity are now being reported in parts of southern Nigeria, a development he described as deeply worrying.
Speaking during the interview, Kwankwaso stated, “I’m afraid it may even reach the Atlantic coast, which would be a tragedy for all of us.” He stressed that urgent and coordinated action is needed to prevent the security crisis from escalating further across the country.
According to the former Kano State governor, insecurity has displaced thousands of people from their communities, disrupted farming activities, and affected access to education. He argued that the inability of many farmers to cultivate their land has contributed to food shortages and rising prices, while fear of attacks continues to discourage economic activities in many areas.
The NDC vice presidential candidate further stated that restoring peace should remain the government’s highest priority because security is the foundation for economic growth and national development. He maintained that addressing the challenge requires effective leadership, improved coordination among security agencies, and policies that tackle the root causes of violence.
Kwankwaso concluded by urging Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening national security and promoting unity. He expressed optimism that with the right leadership and well-coordinated policies, the country could overcome its security challenges and create a safer environment for all citizens.
