UNGA: You Think People Will Arrest Tinubu For Coming To United States? For What Offense? — Ibrahim

Nigeria’s ambassador to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has dismissed suggestions that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu risks arrest if he enters the United States for the United Nations General Assembly, asking what offense the president would be arrested for. He said such claims are being pushed by political opponents daring the president to attend UNGA.

In an interview with Channels Television, Ibrahim responded to claims that there were reasons beyond those already given for Vice President Kashim Shettima representing Tinubu at UNGA.

He questioned what opponents were daring the president for, noting that the sitting arrangement at UNGA had already been arranged and Nigeria was placed in the front row on seats three or four.

He said nothing can be done about that arrangement and asked if critics intended to change the seats, recalling that Tinubu was there last time.

When asked if there was any issue with the president’s entry into the US, Ibrahim said no and added that it is not possible, which is why political opponents are daring him. He said when the president attends UNGA and returns safely to Nigeria, they will appreciate that he is a president that should be respected.

Ibrahim stated that Tinubu is set to deliver a very important paper at the United Nations, including on global security issues. He said President Tinubu has a lot of experience with reforms, while President Trump is also pushing a reform agenda at the United Nations.

In his words, “No. What, you think people will arrest the president for coming to the United States? For what offense? No, that’s not possible. And that’s why his political opponents are daring him.”
