We Will Probably Hit Them Hard Again Tonight” – Trump Signals Possible New US Strikes on Iran

According to a report by the Times of Israel on Wednesday July 8, 2026, US President Donald Trump has indicated that additional American military action against Iran could take place later on Wednesday, saying Washington is considering another round of strikes following Tehran’s reported attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and military actions involving Gulf states.

Speaking to reporters during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said the United States had already carried out heavy strikes the previous night and suggested more could follow if the situation continued to escalate.

He stated, “We hit him very hard last night. We’ll probably hit them hard again tonight. I’ll give him a little warning. We’re going to hit him hard tonight, but we’ll see how it all works out.”

During the exchange with journalists, Trump also repeated his assertion that his administration had effectively brought about regime change in Iran. Although he has previously suggested that Tehran’s current leadership was more pragmatic than its predecessors, he again used dismissive language to describe Iranian leaders.

The US president went on to praise what he described as the effectiveness of American military operations during the recent conflict. While referring to the war, he also made a remark that appeared to mistakenly identify Iran as the “Islamic Republic of Japan” while discussing missile attacks on a US aircraft carrier.

Trump further argued that the understanding his administration reached with Iran offered stronger safeguards against the country’s nuclear ambitions than the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated under former President Barack Obama. He maintained that his approach blocks Iran’s path to developing nuclear weapons, unlike the earlier accord.

At the same time, Trump suggested the United States may ultimately choose not to pursue a broader agreement with Tehran if current tensions continue. He indicated that Washington could instead rely on military pressure rather than diplomacy, saying such an approach might prove simpler under the circumstances.
