Precious Blessing, one of the survivors of the Alakija building collapse in Lagos, has recounted how she remained in contact with people outside while trapped beneath the rubble, saying she also witnessed what she believes was a miracle that kept a young boy alive.
The survivor shared her experience during an interview with TVC News, after she was rescued from the collapsed building. The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, with personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other first responders working to rescue victims trapped under the debris.
Blessing described the anxious moments she spent beneath the collapsed structure, revealing that despite being buried under the rubble, her mobile phone remained functional. According to her, relatives and other concerned persons repeatedly called her, allowing her to confirm that she was still alive and trapped inside the building.
“They were calling me and nothing happened to my phone. I was able to pick it up telling them I was inside. And God opened small hole for this boy to breathe so he won’t choke inside,” she said.
Her account paints a vivid picture of the frightening conditions endured by survivors while awaiting rescue.
