Dr. Charles Oludare has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing concerns over alleged irregularities in the party’s primary election in Ondo State and what he described as a growing threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.
Speaking during an interview on Nevon HQ, Oludare said his decision to leave the ruling party was driven by what he believes is a decline in internal democracy and increasing intolerance toward political opposition. He argued that recent developments within the APC raised serious concerns about the future of multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
Explaining his position, Oludare said, “I am resigning from APC because we are turning Nigeria into China. Into a one party state and I have complained about this even when I was in APC that the APC is going to damage democracy.”
He maintained that he had repeatedly expressed his concerns while still a member of the party but claimed that his warnings were ignored. According to him, political competition is essential to a healthy democracy, and any effort that weakens opposition parties or discourages internal debate could have long-term consequences for the country’s political stability.
Oludare also linked his resignation to his earlier criticisms of the APC governorship primary in Ondo State, which he has alleged was plagued by irregularities.
